Extravaganza Xmas
Hanging burbles on the tree
Chestnuts roasting in the fire
Snow falling in the streets
Festive platter for my tea
Snowman built by me and my dad
Soggy mittens, crinkly fingers
Coal for eyes, carrot nose
I’m sure he waved to me on my way to the shop
Crisp white snow, yellow snow?
Snowball fight! I here them shout
Frantic building balls
Vigorously dispatched, aim not so good
My target, illusive, not in my case, ouch! My face
Red snow, puddle on rug
Sound of the dryer, smell of hot coco
Plaster on nose, “Wizard of Oz” on TV
Tick, tick, goes the countdown clock
Christmas will soon be here
Tree ready, presents bought and wrapped
Smashed the illusion of Santa
When you see your parents wrapping your Wii
The fake surprise as you open it by the tree
Gifts for all under the tree, boxes for all to share, in different shapes and sizes
Decorated elaborately, full of surprises
Party invites and Christmas cards sent
Turkey out to defrost, eggnog a glass or two
Smell the turkey cooking, sitting by a log fire
Here jingling bells, and an angel choir
Relatives from far staying over
Singing by the piano, raise a glass of mulled wine
Next week new years, headache pills at the ready.
