FALLING BY THE SWORD!

Imagine how it must have been,
To be a king, or live like him.
Who stared up at the stars at night,
And sang his songs under heavenly light.

One day he was given a purple robe,
A golden crown and a mightier throne.
People had begged God to give them a King.
Though He was against it, He allowed this thing.

Prosperity came and Saul reigned with might,
For many years till one fateful night.
His passion overpowered, he was filled with lust.
He entertained palm readers, not God did he trust!

No matter how small this sin seems today,
We know there is a heavy price to pay.
But he was also just like you and I,
At times we are humble, and at other times cry.

We may at times wear our own golden rings,
And sing sacred songs beneath angels wings.
Then suddenly be found on our bended knees,
Weeping shameful tears under Willow trees.

A soldier boy became Israel’s first king,
Lost his throne, his crown and everything,
He fell on his sword because of his shame,
His son’s died before him in much the same way!

Don’t be like this man who became sickly mad,
With venereal diseases and blindness, quite sad.
Had he only listened and believed on God’s Word,
Perhaps he never would have had to fall on his sword!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
