I don't care.

Go ahead. I don't care.
You're stronger, you're smarter, and I know nothing.
So don't listen, do what you want.
But when I'm gone, and I don't care anymore
and you're in juvie, you'll wonder,
"Why did I think I was so smart? Why didn't I listen?"
and of course I'll bail you out, you're my son.
And you won't change.
But when I'm dead and you're in prison
with your loser dad who lives in Salem
and my body pushing daisies,
you'll feel pretty stupid.
Because I didn't care,
I knew nothing,
you knew everything.
I've been around longer than you,
broken my heart,
lost the pieces,
and you.
You're 17 years old.
You've got friends - you don't need family!
You don't need any advice.
You're almost an adult, right?
So why should anyone help you?
Why should you listen?
You're trying to live your life!
You've got it all figured out.
So go ahead, I don't care.
Do what you want.
You know it all.

Powerful "tough love" wake up call captured with your frustration in this piece. Universal seventeen years old attitude is difficult to get through to. Keep the love so obvious in your piece 'n' when reality hits home fer the young man, maybe he'll wake up to a new dawn of realization every word you speak is true. Mistakes 'n' humility are sometimes the best teacher, but oh so expensive in lost dignity and it becomes twice as hard to get it back. Welcome to ypdc. Hang in there with love, Mom, keep the faith he's got some man in him and will grow up. There's so much caring in I Don't Care.
