Friendship Summers

Contributed by Anakin on Thursday, 8th December 2011 @ 02:16:56 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Often the summers are a long time in passing,
However the friends each summer are surpassing.
We enjoy each other’s company these summer days,
In the form of work, smiles, laughter and play.

Every so often we hear the roar of planes overhead,
As their paths to the countries abroad they retread.
When it is our time to travel far over the seas,
Letters we send to one another in attempts to appease.

The sun’s heat beats down on us as we laugh and swing,
And later we run races that we furiously try to win.
Flop down on the grass laughing with a drink in hand,
In our dreams we wish for the silkiness of the sand.

At the end of summer when it’s time to go back to school,
“Stay friends no matter what” is our unspoken but firm rule.
The summer of fun, giggles and girlfriends is over at last,
But we will tuck away the memories of long times past.

Not only a well scribed definition of friendship, but a tickle to the memory of summer friendships when I was a kid. Ancient history but still remembered. Great write.

This just brings my childhood come racing back, a time of innocence and laughter. Thank you so much for this enjoyable read.
