why won't you let me sleep...

Tossing and turning, the sheets twisting and binding around your body, as if you were a catipillar making a cacoon. The heat of your own body steadily rising until you can't take it any longer and you tear off your sheets, why won't you let me sleep...

A movie reel of memories, wishes,thoughts and hopes of what was, should, and could've been, play on repeat in your mind, serving as haunting reminders that you are in that bed alone, why won't you let me sleep...

You open your eyes to escape it all and take a second to remind yourself that it isn't in your control, everything disappears as you stare into the darkness, you breathe a sigh of relief and close your eyes, immediately the movie begins to play again, why won't you let me sleep...

Your eyes open again hoping to escape, yet your mind begins to play tricks as you still see memories playing, only they become more and more vivid the more you try not to think of them, happy memories that would normally ignite happiness in your heart but only bring about pain and torment, why won't you let me sleep...

The cycle continues for hours until you no longer see darkess, but light peering through your window, another restless night of memories, dreams, wishes and hopes to keep you awake wondering what went wrong. Why won't you let me sleep...

You open your eyes again, only this time you see darkness, was all of this a dream? you ask yourself, and suddenly you realize there is no escaping this torment, because asleep or not you can no longer tell what is real or what is a dream, why won't you let me sleep...
