Almost Safe

Contributed by PaulaPuddephatt on Saturday, 3rd December 2011 @ 02:18:50 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Almost safe inside my sanctuary -
it's not that I'm afraid of solitude.
Yes, there is loneliness, but why delude
myself? In my heart, I must stay wary.

People will hurt you once your guard is down.
Hurt upon hurt - it gets hard to repair.
Still, I find that, in the end, I do care.
With no lifebelt, I fear that I might drown.

I just don't know the answers anymore -
as if I ever did. Does anyone?
Select a star to make a wish upon.
Remember not to double-lock the door.

I thought that I'd be safe here but I'm not.
I sense the final chapters in "their" plot.

Despite the fact that it reminds of the time when I 13 years old and how I wanted to pass away, I really like this! Great poem

Interesting structure. instead of abab or aabb you're rhyming with abba. Rhyming with Abba... ha! what a weird show that would be. Anyways a good interesting poem with a good lesson... don't run away and if you do don't lock the door to tight behind you.. at least that's what I got from it. Nice work , truly , Doug

for me, this poem was about the fear of letting someone close, and locking yourself inside. Nice poem.
