Each breath I take, each step I take brings me closer to you.
I’m driven by dreams to be successful.
I wake up with purpose, renewed strength,
To have to face the worst times—
And come out with a smile on my face because I overcame it.
I was once a shell of myself, easily told what to do, how to do, when to do it.
Behind these bars, I cried the first couple of nights,
Questioning every action, every mistake that I made.
Slowly I found a common ground with all these women—
That life can be crap—we do things in the moment.
Feeling what were feeling, nobody can reach us until we fall flat on our face.
As I look back on the time I was locked up,
I’m thankful that this was my wakeup call—
I am finally living.
