Birth date is noted down a year in advance,
Gifts are thought for and liking asked months in advance.
Every effort is taken to make this one-day in the year special,
Year after year it is been made special.
I think I am destined to do what I do,
My father did it,
I am too doing it.
None of his friends ever remembered his birthday,
None of my friends remember my birthday.
Their special day is special,
My special day is not special.
Is it fair?
I don’t know, who cares?
I flood your door with greetings,
Do you ever care to at least send me a greeting?
My presence is expected,
Do you think yours isn’t expected?
It’s said one has to neglect few things in life and move on.
But my dear friend always remember this thing that I will
Always remember your birth date,
Even if you don’t remember my birth date and me.

I enjoyed how you were so honest in this poem. Well done. Dont feel bad the same thing happens with my birthday. Ever since I was small there was something that always happened too take the shine out of my day, no joke. Im 34 now and it still happens!! Thanks for sharing!!

Michelle,
Thanks a lot for liking my poem. It was something that was in my heart since a real long time. Finally it came out and I felt really nice to know that I am not the only one who faces such a situation year in year out. It was my pleasure in sharing this poem with you. The only thing that applies to both of us is “we can’t change the past and future is something which we can’t predict.” - Bhavik
