She would come to my open window
Then reach in to my crib,
Whenever I was crying,
For she felt I was Her kid.
The moonlight she thought frightened me.
Her window open so she could hear!
She just lived in the house next door
Where she could hear this baby snore!
And as I grew more daily
She taught me of the Great I Am!
From the moment I could speak
I have only called her Gram!
I saw that her dear husband
Was a wise and loving man.
He must have been quite a catch,
For him to have caught my dear Gram!
My Gram she sure loved children.
Her only child was my sweet Mom!
She loved to teach in Sunday School,
It’s now what my faith’s based on!
Gram would cook us Holiday feasts
Doing it the old fashioned way.
Peeled and mashed all the potato’s
For the turkey she caught that day.
Sweet potato’s she called candied yams
Went so good with cranberry sauce.
Then there was the cornbread stuffing
Which was the favorite for all of us!
Sweet memories Gram has planted
In everyone she’s ever known.
She has always fed our bodies,
But she also blesses all their souls.
Going strong now in her nineties,
She has more energy than I do.
She gives credit for her oatmeal.
But I thank God for her soul!
