Not Charlotte's Web
I crossed paths with a spider tonight,
He looked to take advantage of me.
There is a frail and silky cobweb here.
It is shining in the moonlight
and inviting.
It is mesmerizingly intricate.
It is a lure.
It has an allure.
It is beautiful,
but the spider is a cheap con man.
Cheap duds and cheap lines,
like an Oklahoma Casanova
in a dirt road honkey tonk.
He looked to take advantage of me,
like a lonely divorcee
with too many kids and too many needs.
He tries to ply me with sweet honey.
I'm as sharp as a razor.
He tells old stories that he doesn't know I've written.
He looks to take advantage of me.
I crossed paths with a spider tonight,
luckily,
I'm no fly.
