Nature's Lunacy

I remember the spring blossomed country lanes,
We ran down hand in hand for our first foolish embrace,
I remember the slight of your kiss staining my lips,
I remember so well the words you said.
I will never be who you want me to be,
This love is as dead as the lunar seas,
As dead as the corpses that litter the graves,
As dead as your eyes or the smiles you gave,
The clothes you wore are etched into my memory,
so too, the weight of the raindrops that tumbled from the ethereal sky,
I remember how it gnawed and charred my insides,
As the train pulled away and you didn't wave goodbye.
I recall your face, that night I held it in my hands,
We talked of longing, we made serious plans,
How was I to know they resembled the desert's shifting sands?
How was I too know I could never have been your man?
I searched the darkness of my mind,
For hours, for weeks, I let the time pass me by,
I pretended I didn't care; to me you wasn't even alive,
I was in too much pain to even cry.
You said that Love was dead,
You're obviously not the same as me
Love is blind, Love is king
Love is just another form of nature's lunacy
