Long ago in the exotic, virgin land,
surrounded by banana plaintains and cocunut groves,
trampled by wild elephants in droves,
kissed by lazy,gentle seas,
frequented by honey queen bees,
clothed in spotless golden sand,
in Kerala; God's own land,
there lived a famous thief,
deemed to be a rich man's grief.
As his ballads in folklore unfolds,
he was born in one of the poor households.
Those were the days of landlords and despots,
squeezing the poor's blood in bottomless pots.
His heart cried against their outrage,
the animal soon came out of the cage.
For once in a blue, blue moon,
someone atlast became; a poor man's boon.
With endless luck by his side,
his valour soon spread far and wide.
The rich dreaded his fiery thunder,
the poor gratefully accepted the plunder.
The despots now hated him with their very lives,
for he had robbed them even of their many wives.
Aligning together in one twang,
they vowed to get him a hang.
Hatching a plot with lots of sweat,
they caught him in their vicious net.
The poor cried in grief,
the rich sighed in relief.
The intellectuals mused in irony,
he was the product of a evil destiny.
The contract with the devil had terminated it's lease,
he atlast rested in undisturbed peace.
