Who Coulda Guessed

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

The war has been fought and ended
The outcome not what one expected
The love on which I depended
I learned had long ago defected

What I had thought was love of her son
Was only a flight of fantasy in my mind
When the train of truth hit me head on
I realized that she had left us both behind

How do you walk away from a child you bore
How do you close your heart and soul to his joy
How do you tell him you want him no more
Too bad for you, I'm proud of and love this boy

You will no longer tear him or me apart
You will no longer bring us pain and strife
I will give him love with each beat of my heart
Your loss is my gain, my joy, my life

So go on your way, don't look back
Enjoy your sad little life, alone with your dark hate
Maybe someday your life will take the right track
But by then I'm sure it'll be far too late

Peace surrounds us, truth has set us free
The future awaits us, the way yet untold
I know he will grow up to be all he can be
God's blessings await him, as yet to unfold

I do thank you for this child you gave to me
I get to know the growth, pride, love and joy
I awake each day blessed and privileged to see
All that he is and will be - my grandson, my boy.

There is no greater joy in the life
of an empty nester parent than to
hold onto and cherish those precious
grandkids! I adore mine as you do
yours. Thanks for sharing this
heart gripping Work of art! I am
encouraged by the belief that you
will be raising him in the nurture
and admonition of our Lord!
Blessings,
Robert Edgar Burns (Rob)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
