Let me tell you a story, about the broken moon who would gaze upon the sun. Her rays swallowed him whole as he lit up the sky, and for once the moon, though broken felt as though the people were gazing upon him. 28 cycles passed and the moon was nothing yet again, not even a piece of it could be seen. It was covered in a shroud of darkness. The sun however, radiated beautifully every day, it was something to behold indeed. The moon loved the sun, and the sun loved the moon. However they were worlds apart. The sea of stars separated their heart. The sun’s light could warm the frozen surface of the moon, and it penetrated the darkness. The moon grew to rely on the sun’s rays. Which is why on every 28th cycle the moon would plot some way to steal the sun away from the people below. How greedy was he, the foul moon, his cold heart obsessed over the beautiful sun. The sun he loved more than anything else, including himself. Somewhere along the way, he forgot what it means to love something. You see the sun was too warm for the moon, and the moon knew nothing but the world of ice and darkness, somewhere along the way, he decided that the sun could not possibly love him. Cold as he was, useless as he was, closed off as he was. The sun was the only thing that warmed his soul, and so he made his decision. He robbed the light of the world, he took the sun away from the people, and brought clouds to the Earth. The sun was disgusted with the moon, but she still loved him, but there is a sea of stars, too thick for any vessel to sail. The sun broke free, her brilliant light once again illuminating the entire world. And the moon fell into the sea and died, but in that death moon rock shed its outer hard shell, and decided that it would gaze upon the light. From afar. It would not allow itself to be illuminated by that light. Because if the moon could trick the sun back into that 28 day cycle, nothing would come but clouds. Clouds would batter the sun, her brilliant rays could not shine through. The moon still loved the sun, but the sun does not want to love the moon. When the moon rock immersed in sea realized this, it shattered, all the warmth from the sun was gone, the light of hope was gone. 28 cycles later, though he prays for the eclipse daily, the moon realizes how the sun’s warm light changed him. And prays that the moon’s frigid surface did not taint her, the beautiful sun.
