What's my age again?

The future for them is far past for me,
Creating distance between 'normality' and my existance.
They never understood at a young age naivety was partially forced out of a young girl facing their problems before they had to.
Going out of their way to increase the complexity of my life to satisfy their own imperfections.
I laugh at them now, as they struggle to accept their own realities,
As they face up to the pain that they could not foresee.
I grew up way to fast and speeded through my pain,
But sometimes I have to ask myself,
What's my age again?

As I read your poem, it really hit home to me. Everything you said, I am going through right now. I am young and I am pressured to be older than what I am, better than what I can be, and wiser than I am. But that's being a kid....
Very nice job, you have incredible talent.

Thank you for your concern, I will fix the problem shortly. Although maybe you could expand on why its crap...'It dnt rhyme, i know it dnt always have to!' That doesn't quite satify my idea of constructive criticism. If you could reply back whenever you can, I would be very grateful.

i really hope you'll ignore that badly worded comment. poetry doesn't have to rhyme, i think poetry is often more powerful without rhyming. i liked your poem and thought you expressed yourself well. (i honestly doubt the person who commented could write anything as powerful). keep writing, Kate x |

It takes all kinds to make a world
some good, some best forgotten
the best keeps well, is good to sell
The rest just turns all rotten.
I've just written a poem
about me getting older
the changes that we suffer
and how we fill our "folder"
I didn't find it hard to rhyme
but that's the way I do it
I liked your poem very much
I guess I'll leave you to it |
