STILL HERE?

I picked up the cigarette
From the ashtray where it lay.
And remembered it between your lips,
Just the other day.
I felt much closer to you
When I placed it between mine.
Though I don’t smoke to me I felt
Your lipstick tastes like wine.
A glass sat on my counter
From which you’d taken sips.
I closed my eyes and fantasized
As I kissed prints left by your lips.
I found the towel you wrapped in
As you waded in my pool.
I hugged it tightly round me
As my mind was full of you.
I find myself conversing,
Praising everything you do.
And listening with my eyes closed
To the beauty that is you!
I placed my arms around the chair
That you sat in last my dear.
I knelt there for the longest time
To sniff your essence there.
My lungs enlarged with perfume,
And my mind saw you oh so clear.
There is no doubt when I’m awake
That you always are “Still Here!”

It has potential. Try looking at it from the readers perspective. Some of it runs together too much. |
