sparks rain down in swirls
smoke Cascades and curls
a carousel blares and turns about
as a clown cries tears out
the fair seemed dulled
and blackened hushed
a man dashed beside
the hour was nulled
and the sun pushed
a duty free demon dragged his feet
by the off licence under the stairs
a distant car blared a subtle beat
drunken kids played girlish dares
the man wished he was the same
but burdened a drugged up blame
as the laughter wasn't tamed
a girl shrieked out framed
like in a forgotten picture
the scene was set
and the ground was wet
the sirens pulled by
to the qualms of
a greedy sigh
dragged away under blue and black
she screamed at death on her back
something funny went on unannounced
in the air lingered urban scrawled
written on the walls and the streets bounced
pulling away again in custody
the hiding ones heaved
pavements gleamed bloody
and the words muddled muddy
vodka bettered they grieved
the man unnoticed
watched it all
but he was thinking on the fall
this winter held no promise
and the last summer the same
he was busted from the game
he was empty his friends in cells
a chorus church played bells
it all seemed foreign now
his titanic had tipped its bow
left alone a sorry drunk
the alley his home a gutter a bunk
the fair through chain fence and fee
irony was all he could see
gated up happiness
was dull and hapless
now the doors were open wide
and the crows surged a tide
the hassle was gone
and trouble none
a rich-less rag of a man
with a two month driving ban
laying low tipping to toe
tripping on a cider can
meeting ground
rushing blood was the sound
laughter rose in seagulls up above
the sides didn't see or care enough
crawling up and breathing deep
down a side street
time to die and time to sleep
the pain ran deep
the nearing beat
