A QUEER DEATH
The person was asleep — I thought —
As lay he on the forest floor;
A closer look the Truth then brought:
I saw the man did breathe no more
Then leaned I o’er his fallen form,
I heard a beat! I gave a start! —
Then saw ‘twas but the watch he wore —
Had whispered not his lifeless heart.
Beside him knelt I — open-mouthed —
But words came not upon my breath;
A primal howl — instead — came out —
Ungodly growl — shriek of death!
But ere could I recover well,
Than distant movement caught my eye —
Swift struck within me danger-bell!
My ward — poisoned! I knew not why:
Tho’ knew I how such came to be —
And who assassin doom’d that day —
‘Twas Nature’s deed.. as did I see
Sly serpent hissing slide away.

Hi, thats a really clever poem ,you both write really well. To me its decribing natures life cycle. We are all aware that the clock stops ticking for us all in the end. Fear becomes our own monster or sepent, we become scared rigid but we must all move forward.

Like this a lot. Very creative but still easily understandable. I also liked the fact that It didnt end the way I thought it would. The murderous snake was a nice surprise. Keep it up! |

You two write very well together. And being in the Fall a time of death (nature-wise for us in the US) it had a great 'feel' to it. Love this!
