Shelter Me

Contributed by Deidra_Carmichael on Sunday, 16th October 2011 @ 04:31:45 AM in AEST
Topic: sarcasticpoetry

Of course you can protect me from the evils in this world
But don't forget to indulge yourself in filthy jests when I'm gone
Perhaps it's true princesses are always alone
What if prince charming turned out to be love's thief
Believe me reality is finally kicking in

Oh shelter me my darling for I am not worthy
Of knowing the business of a man so independent
Why certainly my eyes, ears, and heart are
Too innocent for one filled with immoral humor

No news is good news; that is the proverb many know
Still I feel uninformed-mistreated more so
Does this not go to show our agreement
Has faded and now you've pushed me aside
If you think you can shelter me then
I must take drastic measures to disprove you

'Shelter Me' is an outstanding poem. It has feeling, it is well-written, and it tells of real drama. I'm not sure what to say to this woman who seems 'on the edge' -- but not really -- since she maintains her strength: especially at the end of the poem. Most interesting. Flows. Speaks Truth.
