Lest We Forget

Do not forget our boys, our girls.
Brave souls, our band of heroes.
Think before you scream at the press
Complain at the stories of death
Cry unfair or indefensible conflict.
Don’t diminish the cost, the ultimate sacrifice
Of our courageous brothers and sisters.
They did not choose to go there
But are prepared to give of their lives.
Do not sully their memory
Our mothers and fathers.
Choose instead to whisper a prayer
That they’ll all come back home.
Back to the bosom of their families
Our kith, our kin.
Our souls.
