I've lived through
Five months of despair
You've lived too
Never needing to share
I hoped you would feel
Without me to explain
I needed compassion
To help with the pain
I'm afraid I expected
Too much from you
And too little from me
If I'd only knew
I used to watch
Two stars in the sky
And see a true love
With a sweet eye
Then I looked up
For hours and hours
I cried, I couldn't tell
The others from ours
I'd rather have love
Than hate as a memory
That's why I left
Our friendship dear Emily
Thirty days have gone
Since our contact ended
I've made that too
A milestone amended
You can still light
The fire in my heart
For now it's gone out
No flame, we're apart
But you won't return
That much I know
I hope you've learned
Have something to show
I can now live
To love another day
But that I have loved
Can't be taken away
