Not What I Needed

There was once in my life when I believed the lies,
I was told there was a reason that I was alive,
They dared to say I had something to give,
They lied to me to make me live..
That life they tried to save just rotted me more,
My soul decomposed within me long before,
I'm just a empty corpse without a home,
Just an abandoned idea without a form..
Did they really think I would thank them for the attempted lift?
Is being corrupted and destroyed really a gift?
So here I am, waiting for release,
My time has been paid and my sins are raging,
All I want is just a little peace,
In a world where only my soul will be aging..

'Not What I Needed' reflects the despair of true depression; but you must try to remember that depression is a cyclical illness; so when you're that down there's nowhere to go but up -- and that you will -- and at some time in the future, life may even be great. I know what you are going through -- first-hand knowledge. Persons like us have to learn somehow to deal with our desparate feelings and chronic illness. Suicide is not the answer. It leaves a terrible legacy -- and really -- it is kind of selfish in a way. Regardless, out of your agony came a truly readable and clear and beautiful poem -- so at least something good came out of all your pain, what?
