Imperfection and Introspection
The passivity and loudness of melancholy is absolute.
Inside my head the sound of my own thoughts is intolerable.
Today is a bad day and the self-loathing battles through;
Breaks that barrier between sanity and insanity;
The skin of reality being punctured by a poisoned needle.
I sit alone pondering existence or the lack of it and ask:
Why?
So many decent and productive individuals snatched away.
God moves in mysterious ways they say or merely excuse.
It is not fair that so many who want or relish death are forsaken.
Saved by what? A deity or just good or bad luck – a travesty.
Of those that are taken prematurely how much could they have produced?
A cure for cancer, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s disease?
Why?
Is it our destiny to endure suffering through disease and madness?
Are we not allowed to cure ourselves or research efficaciously?
If there is a God or deity looking down is it playing a game?
There are so many of us who want, desire, demand to be taken but are denied.
Forced to live a lie, an imperfect life, a loathsome existence.
Is it too much to have it taken away?
Why?
Philosophers gather to ponder the imponderable.
Religious relics scratch their heads to explain.
Agnostics and atheists access all areas of knowledge but in vain
Strive to answer this unanswerable – or is it?
We are purportedly crafted in God’s own image but we are imperfect.
Whatever, if anything controls our destiny is also markedly defected.
That is why.

The highlight of the poem:
"I sit alone pondering existence or the lack of it"
Great rhetoric! its almost like a paroprosdokian but serious instead of funny.....with a contemplative turn...open ended.....great line! |
