Where does that leave me?

Contributed by Chenobi on Tuesday, 29th April 2003 @ 11:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

I looked at her. Nervously she twisted her words. "I hate my best friend. But since I hate her, she's not really my friend anymore and that leaves 'best' in the garbage bin. So practically I just hate that girl." She sighed her appetite away. Can't we construct another chance? [A different lie, you mean.] I didn't say that.
She stood up and my eyes caught her hand. Cigarette stain on her fore- and middle finger. Smoke rose from her palm. [You smell weird. Satisfying yet depressing.] The scent reminded me of home. My father had smoked all my life. I got used to it and it felt comforting to smell the smoke again. I smelled like home. The stench however reminded me of my past friends. They smoked. They made me want to be depressive, so they would listen to my problems for a change. Although I knew that my problems were small little details, compared to their ***** up lives. And now she's glad that she's left them behind. Me too.
She leans forward now and then. I feel oppressed in the chest when she does. It's too tight. It's too much. I take mine off. He doesn't mind. Or does he?
My spine aches. It has been twisted too many times. Your hands. Bare hands. What is she doing here? Bare lies.
Silence is comforting, but not when you are here.
Naked. Even my thoughts. Beautiful baby. Beautiful, beautiful kamaki. Turn me off.

I'm sorry. I got you back. Did it hurt?

The only thing that I am ashamed of is that you never stopped me.
You just let her run. And I couldn't stop chasing her.
Beautiful second thoughts.
By a beautiful second mind.
Beautiful.
And he doesn't mind.
He doesn't know.

Or does he?

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
