I held your hand and ran down a road
Starting out in life.
Didn't notice the distractions
Ignored all pain and strife
The road was straight
We had new shoes.
But the road soon forked
As they seem to do.
I went left and you went right
Found another when we fell.
Seemed our roads were far apart,
Really parallel.
The roads were long
That we both traveled.
Started smooth
But soon unraveled.
When we fell
Where did they go?
The road was the same
As it was before?
Then we walked alone too long.
Carried the whole load.
It was lonely dark and sad,
Then came a fork in our roads.
You went left and I went right.
Not sure which was better.
The roads were steep and rocky
But soon merged back together.
I took your hand I'd so long missed
Renewed with all loves powers.
Ran then walked and kissed then talked
And stopped and smelled the flowers.

| I really like this poem. metaphor/parable used well. I think it could be excellent with a tweak or two. |
