Last beer in the Fridge

Topic: HumorPoetry

the Summer heat is blistering, intense
and all I can think about is recompense
for a long, dry working day
getting home and cracking a cold one.
I've got the thirst that water can't quench
tha juice doesn't ease and soda won't touch;
only that sweet amber fluid will suffice
chilled and swilled, so nice.

there'd be no sailor's shanty without the sauce
(although they'd probably steer straight course)
I love one or two
of a refreshing brew
and who can deny it, hops are tops.
but that first, single defining arc of indulgence,
as the lager cascades down the throat?
- it's got my vote.

and there, behind the week-old coleslaw
shying away from the world's harsh glare;
teasing me with its intoxicating allure
like mother's milk, sweet and pure
its touch cool in my quivering palm;
so hard for some to understand
my passion
nay, my obsession

I hold it like a life-long friend
and serenade that amber drink,
which gives its all to slake my thirst
as I scull it over the kitchen sink

'baby I know it's wrong, to
crack the cap at first birdsong,
but when I reach for you in the middle of the night
you know it's just so right:
even better to raise a sweat, ah
in afternoon delight...'

damn

it's a Lite.

I know the feeling very well.
There's nothing nicer than a beer refrigerated for at least 24 hours. Unfortunately, beer does not make it to 24 hours in my fridge; so I only get the pleasure you describe so well, when it happens to be a stealth beer which cannot be detected with late night beer goggles...........

Incidentally, the 2nd, 3rd 4th etc don't quite bring the same euphoric excitement yet they remain decidedly moreish.

Thanks for posting. Cheered me up
