These rails direct me as I move along
clicking and clacking to my favourite song
no way back, onward I go
moving steady, sure and slow.
I'm tied with reason to the track
My Purpose? avoiding the sack
for I must remain on rail,
responsibilities, Can't fail.
I tend to feign to live the dream
in the time that's in-between
for some brief moments on vacation
before I return to my station.
my eyes look on, horizon, hiding
from rusty wrecks caught at the sidings
reminding me of what's in store
If I dare tracks not used before
so I move on in steady ways
rusty lines, no lustre, grey
until the end when I am done
clicking and clacking into the sun.
I wonder if ,when I look back,
I'll wish I'd gone on the attack
to take this life right by the scruff?
I didn't, so I guess it's tough.
I can cope but I can't steer
Comforted by other's fears
Whistling just when I can
these rails do fail me as a man.
