THE MOTH

Was it instinct or curiosity that fueled his urge?
An uncontrollable desire to reach the beacons amid the night sky.
Possessing no comprehension of their identity or distance,
mindlessly he prepares to go.
From a leaf of the great oak he takes flight,
without a single thought as to why.
Slowly upward he pressed,
fluttering to and fro.
Higher and higher he ascended,
pushing through the evening's breeze.
They seemed no closer then when he started.
Frustrated,
yet even more determined to achieve the glowing tease.
Oblivious to anything else,
every part of him was committed to his quest.
All of his focus and energy invested in reaching the speckled sea of black.
The squeal which echoed through the sky went unnoticed.
As he became an easy quarry for a passing bat.

You have beautifully painted a picture of a moths desire to reach the night sky! Many will find this to be simple and petty yet tis truly amazing when one thinks of it. God bless and keep writing,
