Chewing gum squished upon the street
Hammered flat and dry by the many feet.
But still there, despite the attack
many reinforcements ensure they always come back
even when treated by council attendants
reminding us glossy streets require great investment.
Few are chosen for the greatest schemes
The others? they know they won’t live their dreams
and so they rebel in the tiniest way
chewing then spitting frustration away.
Chewing gum squished upon the street
like the dreams of the many. A fait accompli.
