Sat nav reassures
In a world where bumps cause pain
A floating cartoon lure
on these gritty, washed out lanes
Passing streets so near
Yet way, way out of reach
Packed up all but beer
And we’re heading for the beach
Each junction follows next
Trucks go idly by
Their bill board sides address
The needs of you and I
Noises ebb and flow
Lit warnings stem relief
another way to go
Tail back is causing grief
We yo-yo on the slack
On the way to finding speed
The signs say 40 max
Their words nobody heeds
I change gear down to three
And mutter words of woe
She wakes up next to me
Asking why we’re going slow
The radio turned on
A caravan jackknifed
Yet another one
A victim in this life
We slowly come to a halt
I turn off the ignition
Surrounded by other like minds
Trapped with no volition
Conscious now the gloss
Provided by 4 wheels
Has worn. An albatross
Trapped in a box of steel
3 lanes of crammed glass ovens
Roof boxes stuffed with clothes
Trailers, I see a dozen
In the county of the red rose
230 miles in front of me
With no idea of when
The jam will clear, both far and near
We’ve barely travelled ten.
We tensely talk to pass time
To try to bring relief
Yip and yap I soon whine
Lying through my teeth
Then at last a movement
Brake lights and engine judder
Outside lane there’s improvement
To my left there moves another
But I’m trapped in the middle lane
With no great indication
Convinced it’s my luck. Insane
I start to lose my station
I start the engine knowing
Soon we will start moving
The tension it is growing
Wow! Rightly I was proven
Accelerate then slowing
This pattern it repeats
All in the queue soon knowing
The names of those sat nav streets
