Can one control one's heart?
... choose whom one will love?
I wonder if such control,
...is entrusted from above.

Certainly I have none,
...for my heart loves whom it will.
As though directed from above,
... whom I've ever loved; I love still.

The heart! That wondrous thing!
...who can understand it?
And oh, how I pity those;
... who think they command it.

The heart, that mystic link,
...'tween God and man.
Who, when man says no,
... affirms, "Yes you can!"

And, oh how my heart loves you!
... far beyond what I can control.
Far beyond where reason resides.
...unto the certainty of my soul.

Can one say "no" to one's heart?
... when it chooses to believe.
Can one say no to love?
... if one chooses…not to breathe!
