A little summer

A Little Summer

A little girl with big brown eyes, long dark hair cascading round her shoulders.
Running in the meadows filled with tall sunflowers and wild daisies.
Carefree were those moments, of basking in the country sun.
Tending horses, pigs and cows with the first blush of dawn.

...Horseback rides into the wilds of the mountains, plenty of fishing trips.
Getting lost for the day under the shade of the apple tree, eating green apples
Until a grand tummy ache headed my way.

Then there were those hurtful times little girls don’t understand.
When alcohol disrupts the home, making her dad a stranger at times.
So the summers had their own welcome moments, and other days filled with pain.
Ever lingering in heart and thought, sometimes they come back to pain again.

Today I can own it all and still find some peace of mind.
A little tear a little smile for each moment and summer memory will be mine.
I can take each bit and piece like a movie picture reel, those days those moments
Seem so long ago but each feeling and memory so real.

Hi Shel,

Bright sunshine days mixed with dark clouded
memories.

Difficult to write about such conflicting
recollections - but you did well with this piece.
