A distant stretch of road. A forgotten path.
Upon, I did meet a stranger, as tall as the eldest tree.
Through magic or some ancient trick, dissolved did he
Into my lost soul and broken mind, and learned.
Of past memories. Days smothered in light and Nights
soaked in darkness. I, or he, saw joyful times and heard
beautiful laughter. Faces of those who had lifted my spirits
always, danced in twisting turns and rapid rhythm.
Then, as if by his will, goodly days ended and dark nights
Took it's form. Horrid specks of bruised images
flooded my, or his, mind and then - nothing-.
His eyes, like pools of liquid silver, widened and he
Understood.
I left that world because of those images......
At once, he left me, like a startled fish and formed
once again, tree like. A wave of colour had splashed
My surroundings, a heaviness had been lifted.
Was this a dream? No! Something else. The stranger smiled.
A scent, like sweet berries in spring, buried the scene.
The stranger, with a nod like rain dropping from leaf to leaf,
Turned and, with raised arm and crooked finger, pointed
My course. Soft and somewhat stolid, the stranger departed.
Now, with pain and memory bound in ragged rope, rope known
To me, I continued on my journey. Through brightest light and sweetest
Sound, I bounded over hillocks and desert sands. Past cascading falls of
Clear water and cliffs overhung with blooming flowers and fragrant ferns.
And then......Light, glorious and explosive, bore through my soul......Peace.
My death was instant. My journey a lifetime. My arrival, infinite.
