to jump, or not to jump?

A boring old office, beautiful clear blue day
lady at the window, looking out, it's her way
half talking on the phone as well as half looking
a boy stands on the bus station roof, surely it's nothing
without and within himself, contemplating his fate
10th floor unavoidable view, so she waits
somehow she stops talking, jaw drops, her heart sinks
“sorry, got to go!”, so quickly she thinks
she googles the number of the local police station
excitement and fear with a hint of elation
the world carries on, nobody shares her fear
meanwhile, he advances until the edge is near
he looks so depressed, staring over the balcony
he lifts one leg over, dangling his foot by the knee
leaning forward, elbow bent, chin resting on palm
right now she's so sure that he means himself harm
below him, a bus trembles, engine is humming
soon departing, toward a girl with pram is running
lady calls the number with a loud shaky voice
the hum drum in the office stops, as if by choice
all who can, congregate toward the windows
knowing to witness is surely a sin, though
they can't help it, soon the theories are started
“that boy is a jumper, he looks broken hearted”
“isn't it a shame!”, “oh, shut up and jump!”
“I don't blame him, this town is a dump”
He pulls his leg back over, and straightens his arms
resting on the balcony, looking down, no alarm
he takes a step back, looking round sensing eyes
looking down from the offices, what a surprise!
The police van approaches, no siren, no speed
quietly, doors open anonymously they leave
dying to run, but deliberately walking
pathetically hiding their intentions of stalking
meanwhile an attendant from the car park approaches
slowly, so slowly, office is on its haunches
attempted conversation, disregarded by action
leg put back over, an instant reaction
the bus, it departs, a guard stops all from approaching
obviously rehearsed, both with practise and coaching
a policeman approaches the boy with hands in his pocket
badly hidden hard breathing, climbed the stairs like a rocket
there is no eye contact, partner comes from the side
advancing so slowly from near and from wide
a girl in the office confident its just blues
“he ain't gonna jump! he's still wearing his shoes”
a policewoman told her who was in the know
that jumpers take off their shoes before they go
but that doesn't stop all the office from viewing
Jane is so nervous, frantically gum chewing
the boy snaps out of it, crunch time, what's his decision?
Whatever it Is, it is met with derision
for the crowd is a creature of darkening karma
an evil intent, slowly thrives on the drama
this poor boy's fate seen by all in this place
the highs and the lows of this great human race.
