The cat stands over its bowl
fake drooling, dripping whilst eating it all
she purrs then walks to me
maintaining a distance of 3 feet
she sits, aside, then stares
until she realises I don't care
then she preens, whilst waiting for contact
wondering what my emotions say
we've always been that way.
The cat lies on her front
her paws tucked over, no need to hunt
her head hangs over the ground
she chooses not to make a sound
a most pristine and regal way
for this small creature to sit there and say
without small words or action
that I am just a fraction
I feel small
she waits, or does she rest?
I sit typing in my undies and vest
for she just woke me now
I had to feed her, her croakie MIAOW?
Before I go back to bed
suppressing the thought that I wished her dead
I open the window
and beckon/force her to go
She follows her routine
ignores my directions, continues to preen
I make tweet tweet birdy sounds
she sniffs the air, then covers the ground
jumps chair, across to the table
then round the t.v and cables
quick hop to windowsill
where there's a way, cat's just will...
unless you tell them to.
I “encourage” her to go
in a physical act, then close the window
routine repeated again
I look at her and hope it rains
I know cat lovers will grieve
no love is shown, but please believe
that I look after her well
walking round in my underpants, doesn't that tell?
What a wonderful gift she was
I thank the lord every day
for this brown scratchy hissy bundle
that 12 years ago came my way
But I think I've done my time
when will her clock stop to tick?
I know my attitude it is bad
but you don't have to clean up her sick
I'm not equipped with the body clock
every morning at stupid o'clock doesn't rock
She was bought for the whims of my kids
but from responsibility they surely hid
and so every morning i wait
for her to routinely MIAOW and cause hate
but she's out now, I sit on the bog
and think. No, wish
that I'd rather have bought a dog.
