God's Children

Topic: ChristianPoetry

Jesus loves the little children
For the bible tells us so
As they spat upon the book itself
And as they sat on top of his throne

And so the children cursed their father
As they swiftly turned their backs
For there was an awful lot of work to be done
To cover up his tracks

This was a dawning evolution
As they darkened up the light
These kids were much more scientific
And under God just wasn’t right

And so the children killed each other
Whether red, or black, or white
Sons and mothers, fathers and daughters
Perished in many wars and fights

And the children looked for the answers
That they had simply hidden away
What is the reason that we’re here for?
What makes us human anyway?

And finally one day God grew tired
So he sent his only son
For it was time to pay the damage
For all the wrong these kids had done

And yet the children couldn’t understand
As they nailed him to a tree
He willingly died to bring forgiveness
To the earth and all humanity

And there were finally some children
That reached out for the light
And God wrapped his arms around them
And through life’s journey held them tight

And still some children told God to screw off
They would do things by themselves
But their purpose became quite hollow
And nothing really ever went that well

But the children that God held onto
Could live beyond what they had known
As he made them for a purpose
Until the day he calls them home
