We Are The Tree

Contributed by Kinnat on Wednesday, 4th May 2011 @ 02:21:33 AM in AEST
Topic: spiritual

I saw her there embracing a limb.
My last goodbye to a freedom within.

That was the price, I feared to let go.
Succeeding in forgetting, so that I could know.

What happened next, I cannot recall.
But certain I am. that it was the fall.

Might I have laid there looking up at the trees?
I might have laid to watch the beauty no one sees.

Might I have wavered, might I have cried?
I might have taken root, even while I denied.

Surely I rose, so I might break away.
Softly they cooed and enticed me to stay.

Maybe just a while; of course they must know me.
Such beautiful smile, but no roots may hold me.

Oh so ecstatic, they know all these things!
Delightful, they know what the future brings.

Wait; Oh wait, it seems I am growing.
This is not what I expected; I really must be going!

But no, the roots; They say I must stay!
Whispering, I am to young to wander, to stray.

"Child", they croon and "Child", they smile.
You must learn your soul before you may leave for a while.

Before you wander, before you explore;
Your tree must be strengthened, just a little more.

Still, on and on the silent voices!
Lecturing on the wisdom of choices!

One they bullied, on they taught!
On I raged and on I fought!

Until I stilled, to feel my roots.
No life giving prison these, digging for truth!

Burrowed inside, I learned yet of more.
I could reach for a leaf, in a bird I could soar!

In a snake I could slither, in a deer I could bound!
My shell could embrace me and take me around!

I open my eyes to peer up at my tree.
I look down at me shell and see I am free!

And maybe I'll wander, get lost, or stray.
But my roots hold on tight to show me the way.

Still my soul grows, my roots dig in deep.
I'm sure that I visit at night when I sleep.

Always I am awed when I look in and see!
Now I am content, that she is me and we are the tree.

This is a strange poem I wrote in a confusion of my spiritual state...
I learned much from myself and my soul of freedom and what love and knowledge can do for oneself.
