Resilient Repentance

Contributed by Elizabeth_Dandy on Saturday, 23rd April 2011 @ 10:33:16 AM in AEST
Topic: spiritual

Disgrace and shame,- he had betrayed his friend,
In a betryal vulgar coward, crude
He had disowned the holiest innocent i
The master that would give himself as food.

For whom? for what? - had Peter 'Rock' betrayed?
His gentle master friend so full of love,
T'was for a loitering servant kitchen maid,
And some assembled curious riff-raff.

And 'Peter Rock' disgraced now realized
The shamefulness and sobbing hid his face
He had betrayed his master Lord, the Christ,
And felt the cruelling weight of the disgrace.

'Before the cock crows twice the master'd said
You will deny me thrice - grim prophesiy,
And Peter had fulfilled it and denied
'I know Him not' - I swear it solemnly.

I never knew the man and never met
His countenance alone or in a throng,
Know nothing of his life nor habitat,,
And if you say know him, you are wrong.'

'I swear, I swear I never met this man
Leave me alone, to warm up by the fiame,
I am no friend of Him, who looks so wan
I know not whence he comes nor know his name'

And he recalled the saddening words: T'is thrice
You will deny me Peter - me- your Lord"
Your valor's boat , keel over, will capsize
With oars and rudders flying overboard.

A tree to hang from nor a rope would do,
He knew the Master well, - who spurned despair
And so darkness'' grip he did pursue
To live though darts of guilt too hard to bear.

'Rock' Peter clung to life and loathed the rope
He'd known the Master far too long indeed,
Intimacy with him had formed his creed,
The creed of sin's forgiveness trust and hope

But hot repentance's tear trecks in long streaks
Marked Peter's countenance indelibly
That ran along his brow and wasted cheeks,
Observed throughout his glorious ministry.

For lady Hope had led him safely back.
To hang himself with trust on Jesus' neck.
