The fish they swim.
The birds they fly.
The cat it purrs,
they don't ask why.
The mouse it scurries
in a hurry,
for the cat's
an acrobat.
The dog it barks,
springs off it's chain,
get's up, bounces
and barks again.
The man shouts down,
he is frustrated,
the dog excites
as if elated.
The clouds they move
across the sky
too sparse to rain
no one asks why.
The dusty streets,
hot to the touch.
The cat finds shade,
it is too much.
The car drives by.
Music, it thumps
the drivers high,
probably drunk.
Next to him sits
a pretty thing,
a can in hand
she takes a drink.
silence follows
and then a breeze.
A little boy
knelt up on knees
plays matchbox cars
within his yard.
he vrooms and sweeps
action repeats.
I walk on by
and walk on through,
no longer thinking.
I just do,
for I decided
long ago,
that thinking hurts.
It opens sores.
Instinct is
a thing we lost.
The laws were set,
kowtow to boss.
What feels right?
It is suppressed
the animals
they know the best.
For animals
do what they please
unless we bring them
to their knees.
Although, knees are
a human thing,
you get the point.
unfurl your wings!
To know freedom
for just one day.
Fearing reprisals
takes away
a something from
the inner self.
Pressure is
not good for health.
I'm never nervous,
never fraught,
I do not judge,
and never gloat.
I function as
I think I must,
all is oiled
I will not rust.
The trouble is,
to reach this state
I put an end
to others fate.
I work alone
for I know best.
The price you pay?
In peace you'll rest.
And so I see,
the headline news
shows pictures of
the ones who lose.
For they turned up
as I arrived.
I can't switch off
this crimson tide.
I know they will
catch me one day.
A hobo
heading on his way.
For now, I calmly
move along
and listen to
the birds sweet song.
Lover's lane
is where i'll head
to put those two
young things to bed,
and casually
on i'll go.
listening to
his stereo.
