My Free-Flowing Mind

Contributed by cheshire on Wednesday, 13th April 2011 @ 11:28:15 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Life is crazy…simple
The way pink green tea moves like fluorescent lava in my cup
And how music is auditory math for the soul
How we scratch rocks on wood when we write with No. 2’s
Yet consider ourselves modern enough to live like ants on the moon
The way the words “stuffed envelopes” makes me salivate, and no I’m not a pica-inflicted street performer
How you eat all the chocolate chip cookie dough
And leave the bowl sitting empty with a sad coat of sticky film that justifies not washing it
Tomatoes are plump hearts with ventricles that I consume for my heart
And the fancy word “lycopene” makes me feel intelligent, as if my lack of an education is no big deal, really.
Everything that’s created destroys something else…
Yet we all drive to work pretending not to notice, because there’s no other way
Today, green feels like emeralds reflected in a pool of lime jello
But tomorrow I may feel indifferent towards the color
Today I’ll wear that backwards hat of questioning authority and pinning all of society’s problems on that donkey—err, elephant
But tomorrow I’ll most likely wake up, happily eat a bowl of cardboard oats, and move my feet to the tune of “The Stars and Stripes Forever”
"Rebels" are people seeking freedom in a place that is not ours
And beauracrats assemble themselves neatly to decide the fate of lesser plebeians
We’re all a bit like files
Spend days making them perfect (that page is still missing)
Look pretty for the state's inspection
And ten years later you’re forgotten
Remembered only to be shoved mercilessly into the shredder so that the cycle can be continued
Life seems to exist only to perpetuate itself
Like a machine that extracts oil which is used solely to fuel the machine
Nihilism is not- or should not be- fashionable, yet many arrive at its gates
Despite its intimidating defiance against the bright blue sky, this steel behemoth demands nothing
But I must be a happy guest on this, life’s journey
Because otherwise I would leave!
Thank god for friends, uncontrollable laughter, sleep, and melody.

Descriptive and thought provoking. There are many things in society that are unpleasant, but there are also many wonderful things. Life will never be anything near perfect, but your last line speaks the truth.
