Of all the gods I do fear
A woman-like creature
Hair of snakes, rattlesnake tale
Feminine hands
See, hear her slithering,
hissing upon the ground
A guardian protectress
Born a Gorgan, a chthonic monster
Daughter of Phorcys and Ceto.
Beware the eyes, they are a tale of woe
Many a man turned to stone
at her deadly sight
Statues, they are turned into frozen
and endless time
Hated by all mortal men
Great Zeus! What curse caused such horrific
birth as this creature from Hades?
All my days upon this Grecian land
I must protect my vision from
this hideous thing
Or a stone figure I myself will become.
