What of the monster that lies in my bed?
That sleeps on my pillows and screams in my head?
Who lingers in mind and creeps through my thoughts,
Who’s on going presence leaves my stomach in knots.
Whose doubts eat away at every decision I make,
Who desires to second guess every chance that I take.
This monster who watches everything in my sight,
And sits down with popcorn to watch my imagination at night.
Who sprinkles my words with alternative meanings,
And keeps my self-steam from receiving any cleanings.
Because this monster’s at home when I'm most afraid,
It lives in the filth left behind from the mistakes that I've made.
It stays among the memories of things I’ve regret for sometime,
It jumps around the playground it’s built in the back of my mind.
This monster plants seeds of negativity until they've grown
Even the angel on my shoulder has a few things she doesn’t know.
And I can’t fight these feelings that keep my thoughts occupied,
So maybe this means I’m meant to be this monster inside.
And as I walk up to the mirror who am I meant to see?
Not my reflection but instead the monster in me.
