Within a star, nuclear fusion
creates elements one by one
until it's mass outweighs the thrust
and in a brief flash, all is gone.
All is formed into new foundries
and planets on a different scale
where the process is repeated
new elements, you know the tale.
And in one place the interaction
goes beyond a chemistry
single cell life is a fraction
all at once diversity.
Humanity it draws conclusions
from its dominance of all
somewhere a god is in it's own image
a greatness that created all
the arrogance of this small creature
fenced others, heads were put on shelves
and when the others, they were vanquished
humans then turned on themselves.
Flags were formed to define nations
so we could label other types
and judge them, hate them, on their failings
build up anger, war and gripes
but lurking out there in our future
is a key to our demise
for we cannot control destiny
especially as we multiply
beyond the sensible equation
drawn by anyone of note
the reckoning, a dreadful notion
who will fit on Noah's boat?
And if all life on earth is vanquished
the owner of our image spent
diversity could be limited
to 117 known elements.

Lots of food for thought. Goes way beyond the Mendeleev chart as I never would have imagined. Good read!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
