My love's the same

Contributed by ammar on Saturday, 2nd April 2011 @ 05:05:23 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I would look into your eyes each day
And you’d respond in the same loving way
But now you’re merely glancing away,
Now those longed-for words you never say.
For this strained relationship, am I to blame?
Yet, my love hasn’t changed – I’m still the same.

Perhaps it is the plain clothes I now wear
Or the beard I’ve grown, or the longer hair,
Or maybe it is how I indulge in prayer
That explains your uncomprehending stare.
Oh, I long for those days to come again
When you’d glance my way and cause no pain.

Of parties and pubs, I don't often think;
I’ve given up smoking, the occasional drink
To the extremists now you probably link
My activities – which makes my heart sink
I can feel your love’s vanishing fast
But my feelings for you will always last.

When I smile at you, you choose to ignore;
I take your hand and you stare at the floor
But I always have my Lord to implore
That He settles things as they were before,
For He can heal our relationship from above,
Grant you the simplicity, and grant me your love.

'My love's the same' is an answer. The question may not have been directly asked: but it is a question all the same -- and a most legitimate one at that. When we go through religious changes, the revelations that we've had help us to see the world more clearly than we did before. However, some of those around us don't understand that we are the same as we were -- and we are -- but for some reason God has touched us -- and so, difference is:

We are lucky and we aren't. We have a gift and we have a burden. Yet we are who we were. And so will remain. It's narrowness of view that allows for simplistic conclusion. Alas, nothing is up to us anyhow -- but to the One: ALL-BE-NO-END -- He with 99 names...

And. Thence comes this poignant poem -- played upon the strings of a quiet-living harp...

A psalm, this. A prayer.
