Surround my love with love again,
not for hair, nor eyes, nor smile.
Appearances will fade, in time,
as painted leaves turn brown in Fall.
Touch not my face when sorrow shows.
Just hold my heart until the dawn.
Say not my laugh nor smile you love,
for I may frown and lose your favor.
Not my shyness, nor my tone;
a time may come when I am bold.
Choate nor base, I do have faults,
but love you must my good and bad.
For fault may leave and traits remain.
If not the fate, I need compassion.
Love not my favors, love my love,
and I will join your side,
not before you, ne'er behind.
Equal halves that form a whole.
To these, my liens, if you'll consent,
I pledge sincerest love and faith
and give to you my heart and soul
to nurture, guard, possess and hold.
My deepest love is in your hands;
as man and wife, we pledge our bands.
