The Finer Things in Life

A large tablecloth, white embroidered
With fancy, dainty flowers
White, pink, lavender
Spreads across the huge dining table.
Elegant feast, fine china, brightly-lit candles
with crystal holders
Servants offer caviar, champagne.
Scrumptious meal begins.
Huge pheasant under glass, frills included.
Rare, older wine, 1800’s.
After dinner, sherry, brandy served.
Relaxing body upon feathery down couch.
Pillows silvery, shining.
Servant brings newspaper, finest cut cigars.
My bath is drawn for me.
Swimming in a whirlpool of gently soft,
bubbly soap suds
Exhilaration to the being,
Relaxing, preparing for slumber.
Two dogs, dachshunds, playfully frolicking
upon my bed of bliss.
Bed created, carved, early century, made of wood.
Dogs jump, crawling underneath my cover
of carefully hand-woven wool
country scene design upon it.
Lights out. Dogs sleep by my side.
Off to dream land.
