As the dawn rises
Over the cloudy vista of my mind.
I sit on this lonely hillside clasping a phone
Waiting for news of your demise.
One hundred and fifty miles seperate you
In your hospital bed
From me on this remote Welsh hill.
And as the day breaks, draining the valley of darkness,
My mind turns to yesteryear and the joy that never was,
And even now, sat here in the fluting breese,
I can feel the cold hard touch of your disapproval.
And as the morning slowly matures
I can picture you in that sterile hospital room,
Can hear the bleeping of a monitor,
The gentle hum of an oxygen machine
And I imagine your face, lips stretched into a grimace
That even death's dark mask cannot disguise.
I stand up and hear bird song, the murmur of the breeze,
The laughter of the frolicking water, the sound of the phone.
And with the bleeping of the phone comes the news
And I know that the years have swallowed your pride.
A shadow passes over the low sun
And your heart is still at last.

I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Nothing compares to the loving-kindness or the heart-ache of that given us by our families. All others pale in comparison. All to often the reality of death over-shadows those of us left behind & the unrelenting thoughts & feelings that accompany & overcome us become necessary companions. I appreciate the title you've selected & the sense of occupation you've expressed so deeply & so well throughout the piece. May our creator bless & keep you in this time of sorrow. elle |

This must have been enormously difficult for you to write. I hope it provides the healing which is needed over time. |

Nice, nicely well done. I hope you do feel better over time, but we never forget moments like that. |

I'm so sorry to hear about both of your losses.
I've lost two nephews, a first cousin and an aunt lately. I don't think I could handle it if my son ever passed. My oldest sister passed away too and about a year early My sister that passed lost her husband.
I know it's hard cause both my parents have been gone for awhile now.
When I lost my mom, I lost my best friend.
Friend I will keep you in my prayers.
I know you know they'll always be with you as their body just quit but the heart and soul is forever. They are angels by your side so just talk to them.
Big huggs, bunches of luv,
emy |

Dennis,
I don't know what to say other than my thoughts are with you and I hope your valley brings you some solace.
