The air is thick
The sky a sad red
The grass dies slowly
The trees hang half-mast
The Monkeys sit
And cry in the corner
Of their minds
My mind is floating
Like a Butterfly
Through the wilderness
An old Lion gives me his paw
Just to say how sorry he is
A lone Eagle high up in
The sky comes in and land
Shake his head
Flies off again
The Bush is a mess
Since you left
Even a Crocodile tear
I can see coming from
A Springbok standing near
The Bush have died
Every flower spells
Out your name
As they fall over
Slowly one by one
They all shout in anger
Please come back and stay
Make this place a home again

Really strong emotions in this poem, I like how you interweave the feelings of loneliness with images of nature. |
