shallow crave

Letters, numbers, history
not a patch on mystery
thoughts and deeds recorded
by the ones awarded
with victory
excellence within it's time
all explored, each mountain climbed
our roads and streets on google
all owned by those most frugal.
To take? a crime
church and scholars they are prone
to squabble over what is sworn
a modern age means equal law
traditions rage, they have to go
the split is cursed with scorn
mother earth, a fragile skin
boiling, molten, just within
perception of a solid mass
the shock, a shattered crystal glass
progress? fit for the bin
politics a juggernaut
media provides the thought
subscribe to sport to pacify
whilst t.v. Journo's cast a lie
give living dead the vote
Mothers, daughters with free choice
sisters died to give a voice
a joke performed, morning t.v.
beauty secrets, celebrity
in shallowness rejoice...

Nicely done. In honesty, though, I feel that shallowness is generally a crutch to make one believe one understands life. People take comfort in it the same way they do in faith, tradition, and the like -- a natural response to the disorientation they feel, either as part of society or more personally. I'm not sure it's something to be scorned so much as sympathized. |

A fearless passage, equiped with self enduring wisdom, our colleague Aspirant makes an interesting point I believe though that sympathy in many cases coddles a sickness after a certain period of time and scorn while it may not be the answer in acknowledging an ailment it certainly inspired a depth ridden chapter, well done!
