At the dark frozen pass of winter
A new glory awaits.
The coy glance of the intimate sun,
The earth warming slowly in the furnace of a dream,
The flash of Blue Tits, the flitting of Blackbirds
And the lusty song of the Thrush
Shaking the hedgerows from winter slumber.
The Mallard croaks with sensual joy, a coot wags,
And the Moorhen admires the hills and sky
Reflected in the mirror of her kingdom.
And all around the drip drip of melting winter.
The days are longer and brisk with change
And the gentle sigh of buds a popping.
Along with the sap the mercury is rising
In tribute to the glory of spring.

iT was easy to get lost in this passage and impossible not to The images flow together so naturally, as if there was no other way to depict the coming of spring you have a admirable way with ink truely breath taking and flawless

Always love your poems, Dennis and this is definitely no exception. Beautiful writing. I hate to admit it though, I had to Google Blue Tits. My first reaction was: well is the rest of her body blue too? |

Wonderful writing once more,It certainly does feel like spring has sprung and you've captured that feeling beautifully.
I love the line 'Along with the sap the mercury is rising', Very clever.
